We were saddened to hear of the death of Judy Tarling last week. Judy was the founding leader of Leeds Baroque when it was formed in 2000, and she served as leader for two decades. She made an outstanding contribution to the group as a performer, teacher and mentor. Her commitment to excellence and her extensive knowledge of rhetoric and musical style were central to the inspiring leadership she provided in rehearsals and performances. She will be greatly missed by all members of Leeds Baroque who had the privilege to work with her.

We are thrilled and honoured to announce that soprano Philippa Hyde has agreed to join Crispian Steele Perkins and become one of our 25th Anniversary Honorary Patrons. Pippa too has been a generous supporter of our work since the foundation of Leeds Baroque Orchestra in 2000, joining us to sing in our first season and many occasions thereafter, most recently in our performance of Purcell’s The Indian Queen.
Pippa says of her appointment:
"I feel most fortunate to have been involved with Leeds Baroque Orchestra since its earliest days. Having recently relocated to Lancashire for my husband’s job, to discover that Peter Holman was establishing a Baroque orchestra just over the Pennines was welcome news indeed for this lover of Early Music. Since then, I have been involved in many performances with them over the years, and each return visit feels very much like a homecoming. I still find it wonderful that Leeds has its own period instrument band and dedicated choir and am honoured to have been invited to become one of Leeds Baroque’s patrons."

We are delighted to announce that Leeds Baroque have been awarded a grant by Leeds Philosophical and Literary Society to support our October programme A Celebration of Henry Purcell.
This is an ambitious project, with spectacular orchestral forces and a starry line-up of vocal soloist, the support of the 'Leeds Lit & Phil' will help to ensure its success. Tickets for the performance are available now - visit the concerts page for booking and more details.

THANKS to all those who generously donated to keep Leeds Baroque bringing the best of Baroque music!!
